The Walt Disney Company Essay - 3253 Words
The Walt Disney Company is one that provides a broad spectrum of goods and services, making it extremely unique. The company divides themselves into five main categories: Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, Walt Disney Studios, Consumer Products, and Disney Interactive. These five factions do different things from producing movies to running theme parks. The Walt Disney Company, an oligopoly as few firms exist with the same relevance in society, continues to prosper and have positive revenue in all recent annual reports. While costs of production may be extreme and expensive, The Walt Disney Company brings in major profit continuously. Holding a major share of the market, Disney is a very powerful and very relevant company. The Waltâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦While its founder, Walt Disney, worked towards this company for a large portion of his life, the big day for the start of the company was October 16, 1923, when Mr. Disney signed a contract for the ââ¬Å"Alice Comediesâ⬠. (Disney History) While Mickey Mouse is a major figure head for the company, his first appearance was not until November 18, 1928, when he first appeared in Steamboat Willie. Currently, Robert A. Iger is the Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. In Igerââ¬â¢s time at Disney, he has been a part of the regaining of Pixar as a part of the company in 2006 and signing contract deals with Marvel and Lucasfilm. Mr. Iger was the President and Chief Operating Officer from 2000 to 2005, and then he became the President and CEO in October 2005. Iger has a lot to be proud of.
